Oktoberfest in Beaver Creek
It was hardly Munich, but getting the Regensburg Crew together again for Beaver Creek's Oktoberfest was a ball!I've been asked what the difference between the two is. Where do I begin? Beaver Creek's O-fest is about 1/100th the size of the Munich fest. Everyone there wouldn't even fill one of the famous beer tents, of which there are a half dozen just littered across the Munich grounds. It sounds paltry until you remember just how dirty it gets with that many drunk people stumbling around. Beaver Creek was Disney World clean. We were rather disappointed with the "German Beer" served this weekend. Since when was anything brewed by Coors German? At least the altitude makes up for the lack of potency, right?
Half the entertainment was authentically Germanic, albeit Austrian. Their oompah Blasenmuzik brought back fond memories of Biergartens and countless weekend festivals in Bavaria. A number of Regensburg alumni purchased Lederhosen and Durndles while in the state of Blue and White, which they proudly donned for the day's festivities. The authentic outfits drew laughs, camera fire, free beer, and 1st & 2nd place in the costume contest!
Just when we had decided that Beaver Creek couldn't hold a candle to Munich, they unleashed their secret weapon - to devastating effect: Eddie Money! The '80's performer of such songs as "Take me Home Tonight", "Two Tickets to Paradise", and "Shakin'" was still rockin' the house, 30lbs and 3 rehabs later. Sorry Munich, but we were shakin it with the Money-Man.
